Responsibility – Uniform for 2023
SCHOOL UNIFORM
Rationale:
The Education Queensland policy is that the Principal, in consultation with the school community, will determine school policy on student dress standards.
Kingaroy State High School P & C Association has resolved that it supports a student dress code policy for Kingaroy State High School because it believes that it promotes the objectives of the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006, and in particular that it:
promotes a safe environment for learning by enabling ready identification of students and non-students of the school;
promotes an effective teaching and learning environment by eliminating the distraction of competition in dress and fashion at the school;
promotes a supportive environment at the school by fostering a sense of belonging;
fosters mutual respect among individuals at the school by minimising visible evidence of economic, class or social differences.

Jewellery:
Jewellery is to be kept to a minimum to avoid losses and possible injuries. Large ornate jewellery, as well as large earrings, plastic or otherwise are not allowed.
Due to the danger of injury to the wearer or others engaged in sport, it is strongly recommended that students do not wear any jewellery when playing sport.
Body and Face Piercings and Makeup:
It is not appropriate, for health and safety reasons and for reasons of positive image for the entire school body, for students to have any visible body piercing while they are at school.
This includes piercings on the face, mouth, eyebrows, nose, tongue or neck. If a student needs to wear a spacer it must be clear in colour. One fine sleeper or studs for ear piercings are acceptable. Decorative jewellery is not allowed.
Any face makeup must be minimal and must not draw unnecessary attention to the student.
Hair Styles:
• Neat simple styles are required. Hair should be back from eyes at all times. Long hair needs to be secured for practical activities.
• Any hair colour which draws unneccessary attention to the student is not permitted.

Senior School News
Year 11 students have finished the year with a 3 day block exam period for the first round of assessment for Unit 3.
As they enter Year 12, it will be the biggest Year 12 cohort in the history of Kingaroy SHS sitting at 168 students.
The school is certainly looking forward to a very positive 2023 with a busy start…… the students are heading off on camp in the first few weeks and some assessment is happening early in the term.
Ms Carissa Sempf will be the Year 12 coordinator for 2023 and I would like to thank Ms Nerissa Maudsley for the care, support and advocacy she has provided to the Year 11 group throughout 2022.
Our Year 12 students have had a great end of the year with external exams, Formal, and then the Year 12 Graduation Assembly on their last day.
At the Graduation Assembly Year 12 students were presented with the 2022 Special Awards and it was fantastic to have the Year 12 cohort with their families there to witness these presentations.
See the full list of Special Award recipients below.
We certainly wish our Year 12 students the best of luck with their ATAR scores and for a very bright and happy future.
Year 10 students entering Year 11 in 2023 will also hit the ground running with new subjects, expectations and an increased work load in comparison to this year. Our advice to students is to really STEP UP…Year 11 starts from day 1 2023 and there is no time to waste in getting organised with a study plan, remaining on track with assessment tasks and managing their other screen time that can take up enormous amounts of time. It is an exciting time and I know the members of the Senior Schooling team are looking forward to working with the students over the next 2 years. Mr Jamie Shirlaw will be the Year 11 Year Level Coordinator next year and I know he is looking forward to working with this group of students.
On behalf of the Senior Schooling team, I would like to wish all students and their families a very safe and restful holiday and we all look forward to seeing you back in 2023.
