School to Work
I have successfully finished all the interviews for the School to Work program for next year, engaging with 48 students and their parents or caregivers. It really is quite impressive to hear the responses of students who are keenly pursuing a career in the trade industry. Letters will be posted out towards the end of term letting families know if their student has been successful.
PBL
The uptake of Kingaroy Merit Points has proven to have had a profound impact on the tone of the school. Recognising and reinforcing positive conduct through KMPs and sending positive postcards home has proven effective. Incidents of disruptive behavior have notably decreased throughout the school. The end of term Hungry Jack's lunch and end of year reward trips are no doubt enticing incentives.
Criteria for the rewards trips has been well advertised, and are dependant on student attendance, effort and behaviour.
The initiative to include Engagement HODs in Years 7 to 10 has provided a higher level of service and support to these younger students. Coupled with our outstanding Year Level Coordinators, I strongly believe this system has become a powerful process in caring for your children.
This week’s PBL message was “Be Organised and Use Your Diary”. In week 7 it will be “Active Listening”.

2023 Australian Olympic Change-Maker Award
Year 12 student, Abby Burrows is this year’s recipient of the prestigious Australian Olympic Change-Maker award.
The award was instigated by the Queensland Olympic Council in 1996 to promote the importance of participation in sport and physical activity. It recognises students who demonstrate initiative, teamwork, sportsmanship and fair play through participation in a variety of sports – qualities which are consistent with the fundamental aims of the Olympic movement.
Abby is the school’s 28th recipient of the award and was presented with the school’s perpetual trophy on parade on Wednesday 16th August 2023. Abby will also receive a certificate from the Queensland Olympic Council.
This award acknowledges Abby’s exemplary attitude and role in the promotion of sport and physical activity. Abby has actively encouraged sports participation and she is an enthusiastic participant in interhouse and interschool competitions. Abby always strives to perform at her best and has motivated others to do the same. Abby has had success this year in touch football and cricket.
Abby is a valuable role model for the entire school community and a very worthy recipient of the 2023 Australian Olympic Change-Maker Award.

SWQ Secondary All Schools Touch
On August 6, the Kingaroy SHS Boys Open Touch Football Team participated in the SWQ All Schools Competition held in Toowoomba. The team displayed their talent and determination, securing a commendable third place in the tournament.
The results of their matches were as follows:
- 9-0 victory against Mary Mackillop College.
- 4-4 draw against Centenary Heights.
- 1-4 loss to St. Mary's Toowoomba.
- 1-3 loss to Toowoomba Grammar, showing their dedication until the end.
While the tournament brought about both victories and challenges, the team's commitment and sportsmanship were evident throughout. We congratulate the Kingaroy SHS Boys Open Touch Football Team for their impressive performance in the SWQ All Schools Competition. Your hard work and resilience make us proud!
Country Cup Netball
More than one hundred Kingaroy State High students participated in Country Cup Netball at the Kingaroy netball courts last Friday. These days are always enjoyable, with huge participation from a number of schools across the region. In addition to the players, we had a great number of students and staff helping out with scoring, umpiring and working in the canteen. The last of this year's Country Cup Netball days will be in November.
Senior Schools Volleyball Cup
From the 4th to the 6th of August, two Kingaroy SHS volleyball teams went to the Senior Schools Cup Volleyball Competition at the Gold Coast. Mrs Foxwell coached the Girls team, who placed 4th in their pool. The girls have been playing together since Year 10, so all their training and dedication to the sport paid off with this result!
Miss Pyke coached the boys team, who placed 8th in their pool. The boys only started training together in June, nonetheless their competitiveness and determination was that to be rivalled all weekend. These students showed our school values both on and off the court at this competition and should be very proud of their efforts.
