Senior School News
Year 12
Year 12 students have been completing mock external exams these last two weeks, and these will continue in the first week of next term.
This is a great opportunity for students to gauge how they are going, receive feedback and experience the process of the exams.
The students have taken this opportunity in their stride and I am sure they are looking forward to the Spring holidays.
Students completing Applied subjects and VET have also been working on assessment, leading to everything being finished and finalised by the Friday of the third week of Term 4, 20 October in preparation for the external exams beginning in Week 4.
It is timely to remind students to continue their focus and commitment to their school work - the light is at the end of the tunnel.
Year 11
Year 11 students have completed Block exams for Unit 2 these last 6 days.
There will be some catch up exams being held in Week 1 - a roster for these will be put out the first day back next term.
Students are able to change subjects between Units 2 and 3 and have 2 weeks to complete these changes. After this, no more changes can occur as the QCAA consider Unit 3 and 4 a pair. Students can see me or Ms Krosch to arrange any subject changes.
Moving into Unit 3 next term, students will start to cover summative work which means that it counts towards their ATAR score or their final result for the Senior Statement. It is vitally important that students submit every piece of work because an 'N' result for one piece results in an 'N' result overall (QCAA policy).

Grin & Tonic Performances
Last week saw the visit of the Grin & Tonic Theatre Troupe, whose aim is to promote the appreciation of Shakespearean drama to schools. Our Year 10 English students viewed an abridged version of Romeo and Juliet, while our Year 12 English students watched a performance of Macbeth.
While some students find the comprehension of the texts challenging at times, live performances allow them opportunity to understand and appreciate Shakespeare. The Year 10 students completed an assessment task based on Romeo and Juliet this week, while Macbeth is the text our students analyse for their External Exam in October.

Hoof and Hook
A dedicated group of students attended Hoof and Hook in Kilcoy this week. All students had an excellent time, and came away with a few wins.
A huge thank you to the Barron family for assisting us with taking our cattle out.
All Schools Touch Carnival
Last week, we had three teams participate in the All Schools Touch Carnival in Bundaberg. Our U13s Mixed team played in the boys competition and won the Grand Final against Shalom Red, 4-2.
Our Open Girls team made it all the way to the Grand Final, but lost out against Shalon, 5-2.
The Open Boys team also made it to the Grand Final against Shalom, but did unfortunately lose, 2-0.
A great day was had by all.
Science - Out of this World
Miss Rudd's Year 10 Science class was given the opportunity to use the VR world to look at the universe. The students were able to walk through the International Space Station and compare the size of different planets to the size of the sun. An experience that was no doubt 'out of this world'.
