Principal's Message
Senior School Update
Year 12
I would like to wish all the Year 12s who are sitting their external exams the best of luck. They have done all the hard work and are ready and prepared for them.
Should your student not be able to attend an exam, AARA forms will be required for illness and misadventure during the external exam period. Contact me if you need to ask any further questions.
Year 11
We are into Unit 3 now, your summative work. Earlier this week you will have been emailed a copy of the Unit 3 Assessment Planner. You can use this to plan out when assignments and exams are. This becomes a valuable tool to help students to be organised and on top of their draft and due dates.
A reminder that drafts and finals are due at 5pm on the day. All drafts and finals should be submitted through QLearn and will be checked for plagiarism and AI use through Turnitin, as per our Assessment Policy.
Finally, congratulations to our new school leaders! I look forward to working with you all throughout this year and next.

Wellbeing and Engagement
Year 9: Australian Catholic University
On 20 November, ACU students will be presenting half-day workshops for our Year 9 students focused on Exercise Science. Their past visits have been exceptionally rewarding for students. Details of the program are still being finalised.
Year 10: Kingaroy Certificate of Education
KCE awards will be presented to students on Thursday, 21 November, at 2 PM in KPAC. These badges signify student commitment to the school, their studies, and the broader community. To earn a KCE, students must accumulate 20 KCE points. Students and staff have been diligently counting points to determine who will receive this award. The criteria for earning KCE points can be found in the school diary.
If you do not receive an invitation but believe your child is eligible for a KCE, please email Mrs Reddacliff at sredd15@eq.edu.au. Students are strongly encouraged to check their points and consult with Mrs Reddacliff if needed. Invitations will be sent out shortly.

Important Week 11 Information
This is a very important communication to all families, especially for those families organising travel at the end of the school year.
Explanation
Every six to seven years, our school academic calendar requires a recalibration, and in doing so, we have an extra week added to the school year. Normally, we have 10 weeks of learning per term, amounting to 40 weeks for the year. This year we have 41 weeks in the academic calendar. This is being resolved in 2024 by making Term 4 an 11-week term. While our academic school year finishes on Friday 6th December, there is one more gazetted week that our gates will be open. That is what we are calling Week 41.
Resolution
In Term 4, beginning Monday 30 September, The Department of Education has given permission for all schools to continue with the 10-week academic term, followed by a week of supervision of flexible programs not directly connected to the Australian Curriculum. Therefore, all school learning programs and events will be completed by Friday the 6th of December, excluding Year 9 work experience activity.
That will mean by Friday 6th of December 2024 we will have completed:
- all learning necessary for the year
- report cards
- all ceremonies, graduations and celebrations of learning in years 7-9
- all high school transition days
Any families wishing to undertake any alternative activities in (eg holidays) will be able to do so from the end of the day Friday the 6th of December. We understand that many families will need this time before Christmas for travel etc.
What will Week 11 look like?
In Week 11, from Monday the 9th of December, any students still attending school will be involved in supervised alternate activities and not their regular class-based programs.
It should be noted:
- students may not necessarily be supervised by their regular teacher
- Students will be combined into diverse groups of varying ages depending on the students who are at the school
- there will be no formal learning against the Australian curriculum
- wellbeing and engagement activities will comprise tasks that a multitude of age groups can participate in
- groups of teachers will be taken offline to work on deep planning and preparations for the 2025 in line with the Australian curriculum
- the canteen will not be available, and students will be required to bring their own food and drink for the week
- absences can be approved with parent/caregiver permission via the QParents App or by contacting the school directly
- uniform is still expected to be worn each day.
To further ascertain whether your child will be in attendance. A survey will be sent out later this term to assist us with our supervision arrangements during that week.
Kind regards
Mr David Thomson

Sports Awards Evening Celebrates Outstanding Achievements
Last Thursday, we held our annual Sports Awards evening, celebrating the incredible talents and achievements of our students. We were honoured to welcome back past student Ingrid Proud (Keates) as our guest speaker. Ingrid shared her remarkable journey in sports and event management, which has taken her around the world. With over 20 years of experience, Ingrid has had the privilege of working with some of the world's most prestigious sporting events, including the FIFA World Cup and the Olympics. Her inspiring story captivated the audience and encouraged our young athletes to pursue their passions.
The evening highlighted many of our school’s talented athletes. Special congratulations go to Kinzie, Rory, Ryan, Abbie, and Jake, who received Gold Awards for their exceptional performances at the Queensland level. The prestigious Bass Blue Award, recognising outstanding achievement and contribution to sport, was awarded to Kinzie for her dedication and success across multiple disciplines. Well done, Kinzie!
If parents or caregivers would like copies of photos from either Sports Night or Speech Night, please email enquiries@kingaroyshs.eq.edu.au with the name of the student so that we can share them with you.

KINGAROY SHS ALL SCHOOLS TOUCH FOOTBALL 2024
Wide Bay Champions, Darling Downs Champions, and Third in Queensland!! WOW, what an amazing year for Kingaroy State High School touch football. The Open Mixed Team proved their ability to mix it with the best and defeat many of the favourite teams competing for the titles.
Thirteen students participated at All Schools this year; Kinzie, Rory, Tyler, Brock, Rowan, Chloe, Ryder, Hudson, Sophia, Fletcher, Abbie, Bree, and Callie.
This year, our team travelled to Toowoomba, Bundaberg and the Gold Coast to take on the best school teams in Queensland. Kingaroy SHS were outstanding. Overall, at All Schools, they had sixteen wins and only one loss. Their dedication to training and the fun way in which they approached each game would make any coach proud.
This year, the Open Mixed were crowned champions of the South West Queensland SWANS All Schools, in the Darling Downs Region, winning all their games and the final against Centenary Heights SHS from Toowoomba 3-1. They continued their great run by winning all their games at the Wide Bay Carnival in Bundaberg including the grand final 6 – 2 against Kepnock State High School from Bundaberg.
The Gold Coast Titans All Schools Touch Football Tournament
From 4th to 6th of October, the Kingaroy Open Mixed Touch Football Team competed at the Queensland All Schools Touch Football Competition, played annually at the Gold Coast. This year there were a record number of people participating, making it the largest touch football event in the world. There were 580 teams from around Australia, and even a couple of international teams, with over 6000 students participating. For the seniors, the tournament ran over three days, playing some of the elite touch schools across the state.
The Open Mixed team played exceptionally well and made it all the way to a thrilling Semi-Final. Kingaroy finished the game 4 all, so the game went into extra time. Sadly, we lost 5-4. We are so proud of how the team played and conducted themselves on and off the field, they gave it their all. Our students represented Kingaroy with pride the whole tournament and we are so proud of all their efforts.
Kingaroy has never had a team make it this far into the draw, it is a massive achievement to make the semi-final at All Schools with the calibre of touch school teams we have here in QLD.
A special thanks must go to the band of parents who supported the team. Thank you for assisting in the preparation of the teams, transporting kids to the carnivals and early morning trainings. Your support was much appreciated. A shout out to Harry (Year 9) and Lucy (Year 8), who refereed many games at the event.
We say farewell to Kinzie, Rowan, Chloe, Sophia and Abbie. We wish you all the best and hope you continue to play this great game and take away many memories from the year. Rory, Tyler, Brock, Ryder, Hudson, Fletcher, Bree, and Callie, let’s aim for the title at Queensland All Schools 2025!
