2025 Kingaroy Highlights #8
Principal's Message
Hello everyone, David Thomson, the very proud principal of Kingaroy State High School, walking through our 99% completed new canteen.
Students will enter through this door and come through a brand new style of service. We’ll have the ice cream fridge here, the drinks fridge here, and students will collect their sandwiches and other cool items from our refrigerated cooling box. Hot food items will also be available.
Students will then line up here to be served. We’ve got some digital signage still to come. On top of all that, students will have access to this new cafeteria area.
This space will offer hot chocolates and coffees for staff, as well as drinks, noodles, and muffins available through this new window service—an exciting innovation for our school.
Now let’s take a look at the back of the facility. This amazing new kitchen features a hospitality-grade cooking area with brand new ovens and an excellent range of equipment. At the rear, we also have a storage cold room and freezer.
This project has been made possible thanks to Des Rowe and his generous bequeathment to the school—for the benefit of our students and the wider community.
This is our new canteen at Kingaroy State High School—and another Kingaroy highlight.
Senior School

Elevate Education will be here to present to our Year 11 and 12 students on Tuesday 10 June. Year 11 students will have a session on Time Management and Year 12 students will have a session on Ace Your Exams. We have found that our students respond well to these sessions and learn valuable skills.
Year 11
Year 11 students began Unit 2 on Monday 26 May. Any subject changes for this unit must be finalised by Friday 6 June. Additionally, Unit 1 reports will be available through QParents on Friday 6 June.
During Week 7, the Senior Schooling Team will review the Year 11 results and make contact with students and parents/caregivers as required. The Senior Schooling Review team is Andrew Maddern, Alysha Walker, Rob Turner, Krysty Connelly, Cath Glenny, Melissa Kempson, Alex Fredericks and Robyn Hourn. Please contact the school on 4160 0666 to speak to any member of the team if you have any concerns or questions related to Senior Schooling.
Year 12
Year 12 students: There is a lot of information on university websites about scholarships currently available. A number of these have already been shared with you by our Guidance Officer, Sean Wicks. I strongly encourage you to take a look and apply if you are intending to pursue further study.

Wellbeing and Engagement

Heads Up: 2025 South Burnett Careers Market
The South Burnett Careers Market will be held on Thursday, July 24 at Kingaroy TAFE. This event provides an excellent opportunity for students to explore vocational training, tertiary education, trade pathways, and a wide range of career possibilities.
All Year 10, 11 and 12 students will be attending the Careers Market. There is no cost for the excursion, and all students are expected to attend. Consent forms will be coming out via QParents or email before the end of term.
In previous years, 100% of students in these cohorts have attended, and the event continues to be a valuable experience. The Careers Market is also open to the general public, so feel free to attend with your child after school if you’d like to explore it together.
PBL Reward
For Term 2, students voted for McDonald’s as their PBL reward!
Those who achieve the required number of Kingaroy Merit Points will enjoy a well-earned meal from the Golden Arches in the final weeks of term. Kingaroy SHS is proud to support and celebrate positive behaviour, and a quiet cheer echoed through the student body when the reward was announced on parade.

PBL in the Real World

On Tuesday, a group of Year 9 girls visited local businesses to learn how school behaviour rules apply at work.
They spoke with staff at Windmill, Kingaroy Carvery Cafe, and KFC about:
- Social media – how posts can affect job chances
- Asking for help – it’s okay and important
- Taking initiative – doing things without being asked
The businesses showed that respect, responsibility, and resilience matter at work just like at school.
A big thank you to these businesses for helping our students get ready for work!

Clontarf News

The Kingaroy Lions delivered an outstanding performance in the B Grade rugby league competition, going undefeated in all four games on their way to the final. Their hard work, teamwork and determination paid off in style, culminating in a dominant win over Dalby in the B Plate final, scoring seven tries to two.
Team captain Caleb led by example both on and off the field, providing strong leadership and inspiring his teammates throughout the tournament.
The Spirit Award was deservedly presented to Jacob, who amazed spectators by scoring two tries — an incredible effort for someone playing rugby league for the very first time!
Congratulations to all team members and coaching staff on a fantastic campaign. The Lions have certainly done Kingaroy proud!
