2025 Kingaroy Highlights #10
Principal's Message
Senior School

It has been a busy term with lots of learning and assessment happening. Take some time on the holidays to recharge and reset so that you are at your best when we return.
Year 11 students will continue working on their Unit 2 assessment tasks after the holidays and will need to keep managing their time to ensure that they meet their deadlines.
Year 12 students are well on the way into Unit 3 and will be working on assessment and preparing for external exams. We will run mock exams sessions starting in Week 10 of Term 3 and will follow the External Exam timetable. You will receive more information about this after the holidays.

Wellbeing and Engagement

Year 9
What a fantastic first half of the year it has been for our Year 9 students! Their outstanding behaviour and consistent effort have been a real highlight. In fact, more students earned a PBL Reward at the end of Semester One than ever before - a testament to their hard work and the school’s commitment to recognising and rewarding positive behaviour.
PBL Reward
A big thank you to the PBL Committee, and especially Mrs Woodard, for organising a well-deserved treat in the final week of term — McDonald’s was a very popular reward with our students!
Heads Up: 2025 South Burnett Careers Market
The South Burnett Careers Market will be held on Thursday 24 July at Kingaroy TAFE. This event provides an excellent opportunity for students to explore vocational training, tertiary education, trades, and career pathways.
Students in Years 10, 11, and 12 will be attending as part of a school excursion. There is no cost, and all students are expected to attend. Permission letters have been issued through QParents or by email. Please contact the school if you haven’t received a permission slip or notification.
Historically, 100% of students in these year levels have attended - and for good reason. The event is also open to the public, so we encourage parents to consider attending with their child after school hours to explore the wide range of opportunities available.

Queensland Youth Orchestra Visits KSHS
This week, we had the incredible fortune of welcoming Dr Rob McWilliams and 13 talented members of the Queensland Youth Orchestra (QYO) to Kingaroy State High School.
During their visit, they conducted two inspiring workshops — one with our Wind Ensemble and another with our Symphonic Band. These sessions gave our music students a fantastic opportunity to learn from some of Queensland’s finest young musicians and to develop their ensemble skills under expert guidance.
We are thrilled to announce that the QYO will be returning to Kingaroy for a special community concert at KPAC on Saturday, 27 July. This will be a wonderful chance for our community to experience their incredible talent live on stage.
A huge thank you to Dr McWilliams and the QYO team for investing in the musical growth of our students — we can’t wait to see them again soon!

Student Spotlight
It is established that no matter whether students engage in sporting teams, or The Arts or other hobbies, there are life benefits. We love that many of our students not only participate and excel in sport, but many learn to coach or umpire their sport to a high level, too.
This term, Belle Freeman in Year 12 was selected to umpire at the 10-11 Years Queensland Championships for netball at the Sunshine Coast.
She was mentored by two ladies from Netball Queensland with great feedback provided after each game she umpired.

Creative Generation: State Schools OnStage

We have a dedicated group of students who are taking part in Creative Generation – State Schools OnStage (CGEN) again this year, a showcase of Queensland's most talented young performers.
This year, we have eleven talented dancers participating in this spectacular event. These students have shown incredible commitment, putting in countless hours of rehearsals outside of school to prepare for their four performances on the 18th and 19th of July at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
To support and celebrate our performers, a group of 40 students will be attending the matinee performance on the 18th as part of a school excursion - a wonderful opportunity to witness the scale and energy of CGEN firsthand.
Our 2025 CGEN performers include:
Soraya Anderson – Senior Regional Massed B
Alysa Cornell – Musical Theatre A, Senior Dance Ensemble
Charlise Cornell – Musical Theatre B, Senior Regional Massed A
Ivy Cornell – Musical Theatre B, Middle Dance Ensemble
Charlotte Fechner – Senior Regional Massed B
Sophia Fechner – Senior Regional Massed B
Addison Fleishfresser – Senior Regional Massed A
Ella Fleishfresser – Senior Regional Massed B
Olivia Slatter – Musical Theatre B, Senior Regional Massed A
Nevaeh Smith – Musical Theatre B, Senior Regional Massed A
Talleah Smith – Musical Theatre A, Dance Company
We are incredibly proud of these students for representing KSHS on a state stage with passion, professionalism and pride. We wish them all the best for their performances!

Introducing Ryder Monteith
In order to grow we need to challenge ourselves. At school we are often told to try new things, something we may never have done, because we won’t know how good we are at it until we try it. Let’s shine a spotlight on our School Captain, Ryder who has done just that and had great success!

FLAIR 2025
Ahoy, Crew!
Get ready to catch the breeze because FLAIR is sailing back with a splash! On Friday, 19th September, we’re dropping anchor for two epic shows, a special daytime voyage during Periods 3 and 4 just for students, and an evening cruise at 7 PM for families and the whole community.
Expect beachy beats, dazzling moves, and enough talent to fill the whole ocean! Bring your good vibes and a gold coin to hop on board the night show. It’s going to be shore-ly unforgettable. So, grab your sunnies and get ready to cruise with the school captains as they steer this ship to a night full of fun and surprises!
Catch you on deck,
Your school captains - currently rehearsing their best sailor jokes (Why don’t pirates shower before walking the plank? Because they’ll just wash up on shore)!

Personal Mobility Devices (AKA e-Scooter, e-skateboards)
1 in 10 e-scooter injuries are life threatening or potentially life threatening. Fractures, dislocations and head injuries are among the top 5 types of injuries caused by e-scooter accidents. The serious injuries caused from e-scooter crashes are likely highly under-reported given not all emergency departments provide data and not everyone injured seeks medical help.
Ways to reduce risk of harm while riding an e-scooter include following the road rules related to Personal Mobility Devices which include e-scooters, e-skateboards, e-unicycles and e-boards.
To ensure you and your child know the rules to stay safe while using these devices, you can visit Streetsmarts for a quick and easy to understand listing of the rules, which include:
AGE:
- Primary school aged children, under 12 years, cannot ride e-scooters or e-skateboards at all.
- Children aged 12 to 15 years can only ride with adult supervision.
- Only those over the age of 16 years can ride e-scooters or e-skateboards.
Supervising adults should ride on a separate device, at a safe following distance from the child riding. The adult should always have close direct oversight of the child riding so that direction, guidance and any intervention can be given when needed.
ROAD USE:
- E-scooters and e-skateboards can only be used on the road in very limited circumstances.
- If your child uses an e-scooter or e-skateboard to get to and from school, it's good to remind them to ride on footpaths to obey road rules including speed limits.
SPEED LIMIT:
- The speed limit for footpaths and shared paths is 12 km/h.
- The maximum speed limit for bike paths and roads is 25 km/h.
MOBILE PHONES:
- Holding a mobile phone in your hand or resting it on any part of your body when riding is illegal.
SAFETY:
- Helmets must be used with the straps fastened securely, and bells fitted for any devices with handlebars.
- Only one person should ride on a device at a time – no doubling.
- Riders must ride to the conditions and avoid any unsafe manoeuvres.
