Responsibility – Feedback from staff, parents and students.
School Opinion Surveys canvas the views of parents/caregivers, students and school staff from every state school on what our schools do well and how they can improve.
In 2022, there are four different confidential surveys for:
- Parents/Caregivers
- Students
- School staff.
Opinions on the school, student learning and student well-being are sought from a parent/caregiver in all families and a sample of students from each state school.
Opinions on the school as a workplace are sought from all state school staff and principals with additional questions for teaching staff on their confidence to teach and improve student outcomes. Principals are also asked on their confidence to lead the school and improve student outcomes.
Who is surveyed?
Respondents include:
- Parents/Caregivers—every family in the school with a child enrolled in Kindy to Year 12.
- Students—all students from Years 8 and 11 will be invited to participate in the survey.
- Staff—all principals, teaching and non-teaching school staff employed during the survey period. This survey includes permanent, temporary, casual, part-time and full-time staff and excludes staff on leave during the survey period.
Our results are in, and whilst there are many data sets to analyse and evaluate here are some key celebrations from the data collected this year.

Sports News
Congratulations to our Open Girls Touch Team who finished in the top 16 at the Gold Coast Titans All Schools Touch tournament. There were 64 teams in the U18 division from all around Qld, interstate and overseas. The girls, ranging from Year 7 to Year 12, worked well together to have a successful tournament. A huge thank you must go to Mr Bunyoung and Miss Murphy for providing this opportunity. Thank you to all the parents for the support in driving the girls to multiple carnivals and cheering the girls on.
Congratulations to Charlotte Hams and Joe Meikle who were announced as the Pierre de Coubertin Award Winners for 2022. Charlotte and Joe are valuable role models for the entire school community and were very worthy recipients. The award demonstrates initiative, teamwork, sportsmanship and fair play through participation in a variety of sports.
This term saw our first two sessions of the Girls Rugby League Gala. Brennan Brown, a South Burnett NRL development officer, came to work with our Kingaroy State High School Year 7-12 girls, to give them an opportunity to learn the skills associated with Rugby League. This will continue over the next couple of weeks. What an incredible turn out!
The Queensland Schools 13-19yrs Athletics Championships started today and will end on Sunday afternoon. Kingaroy State High School has 16 students who will be representing the school and Wide Bay. Yesterday, Abbey Kapernick received a gold medal for long jump and Jenali Bolden a gold medal for discus. Congratulations girls and keep up the great work!
Year 12 & School Community News
This term, the Year 12s began their dancing practice for their formal in November. There were lots of laughs, many toes stepped on and plenty of memories. This week, heels were introduced into the mix...and it went as you'd expect.
Today, the Community Commitee held the Painted Man event in Keith Middleton Court during first break. This event encouraged students and teachers to get a nail painted to raise awareness of violence against women and children. This was a fantastic success and it was so great to see so many people out at break supporting such an important cause.

Arts News
On Thursday, our Kingaroy State High School instrumental students took us all back in time with their Throwback Thursday end of year concert! It was a fantastic show with many memorable bangers. A great display of the incredible amount of talent our students have to offer!
Congratulations to Year 11 student, Kristy Watt!
Kristy entered her artwork Journey into the OzKids magazine competition and has been awarded ‘Judge’s Choice’ in 2022.
OzKids is a magazine which we distribute on a national basis and publish online through this website. Its purpose is to promote and support children's literary and artistic talents and to provide a vehicle for children to appreciate and develop their skills and encourage them to continue in the arts, especially when they see their work published. Sponsored by The Young At Art Initiative, the OzKids art competition is open to Australian primary and secondary school students
Kristy will travel to Melbourne to attend the awards ceremony later in the year, and her artwork will be published in the 2022 awards OzKids Magazine. Her artwork has also been transformed into the mural in the Year 12 space in the Assembly Hall.
Congratulations Kristy!
Home Ec and Hospitality News
Our Kingaroy State High School Senior Hospitality students spent the day on Friday in Brisbane enjoying the luxury surroundings of the W Hotel while learning about the different departments, facilities and services that make up a five star hotel. They then experienced a conference style buffet lunch at the Pullman Hotel before comparing the differences between Queen Street Mall and Myer Centre establishments. Last stop for the day was Eat Street Northshore where Wendy, the Event Manager, explained how Eat Street is waging its war on waste. Students were also able to walk through the on-site farm container.
Science News
This week, the organisation Deadly Rockets visited our school to talk all things rockets, science, aerodynamics and space with our students. The group of students had the opportunity to do a forensic science actvity, learning about attention to detail; speak to a pilot and learn about what goes into sending a rocket into space and what it's really like to fly a plane; and finally the students headed out to the oval to launch some of their very own miniture scale rockets, experimentaing with air and water pressure, weight and angles and how these varibles impact their desired result of distace, speed and height. The students had a fantastic time and we are so grateful to the team at Deadly Rockets who took the time to not only educate, but engage our students in science opportunities outside the classroom.
